How eWAY Works

Online payments can seem a complicated process at first glance. Here we clarify what eWAY does - from the moment the customer enters their details to the settlement of funds into your account.

There are numerous ways of selling online, from shopping carts to recurring billing to manual payments. However once you've managed to grab your customer's attention you need to be able to take their payment. At this point the customer needs to give you their credit card information to make this possible.

There are a number of methods for transmitting this data to eWAY. These include:

  • XML Payment Solution - The customer enters their credit card details directly on your site and they are sent securely to eWAY to process. This allows you to maintain branding, keep the look-and-feel of your site, and also alleviate any concerns that your customer may have about being sent to another site for payment.
  • Shared Payment Solution - The customer is sent from your site to a secure eWAY payment page to enter their details. This means merchants don't require an SSL certificate to ensure that their customer's details are protected from outside parties.
  • Batch Payment Solution - Merchants can collect payment information, populate a set format document and upload payments to eWAY. This is perfect for merchants who collect many manual payments and don't want to process them one-by-one.
  • Manual Payment Solution - eWAY merchants have access to the Business Centre, an administration console where you can enter manual payments for your customers. This solution is ideal for phone, fax or mail payments, and for your customers that don't have, or are unwilling to use, an Internet based payment process.
  • reBill Payment Solution - Need to bill your customers more than once? The reBill solution allows you to bill your customers recurringly, with payment schedules setup either automatically from your site or manually through the Business Centre. This solution is suited to businesses such as subscriptions, memberships and installment repayments.
  • Stored Payment Solution - The customer enters their details, either on your site or on a secure eWAY page, but the payment is not processed immediately. The details are stored by eWAY for you to process at a later date which is done through the Business Centre. This solution is targeted at merchants who want to defer their customer's payments, usually to check inventory levels before shipping or to coincide with a specific billing date.
  • vTerminal Payment Solution - A server-side interface that allows you to enter payments without having to login to the Business Centre to process them manually. vTerminal is suited for solutions such as Point Of Sale operations and call centres.
