3D Secure operates in much the same way that any ATM purchase works - via the use of a secure Password / PIN. When a 3D Secure enrolled cardholder makes an online purchase through a store with 3D Secure Verification, the cardholder is redirected to their own card issuers web page to enter their PIN. The card issuer itself verifies that the PIN is correct, and redirects the cardholder back to the originating website to complete the payment.
CardHolder Enrolment
In order to utilise 3D Secure, cardholders need to first enrol their credit card in the 3D Secure program. This can usually be done online, through the cardholders’ online banking, but it may be necessary for them to contact their card issuer to ensure the enrolment is completed successfully. During the enrolment process, the cardholder will be asked to provide a personal greeting and a password, which are both used for verification at the time of purchase.
Once the enrolment is complete, the cardholder is now ready to shop online at any merchant that has 3D Secure enabled, with greater confidence.
When a 3D secure enrolled cardholder makes a purchase at an online store the following process takes place:
The customer enters their credit card details, as per usual, on the eWAY 3D Secure Shared Payment Page
The 3D Secure Solution is only available through a Shared Payment Page Solution, and NOT via XML.
