You must register a Domain Name with a Domain Registry.
Once you have registered your domain name, you must configure the domain name so that it points to a Web Hosting company. If you have opted to purchase a Shopping Cart that provides hosting as part of the package, you will need to point your domain name to the Shopping Cart's servers.
This is called delegation (or re-delegation) and basically means that you have to type in the location of the "Name Servers" your website is being hosted on. Your chosen hosting company will be able to tell you what their Name Server addresses are.
Most Web Hosting companies provide Domain Name Registration facilities when you sign-up for hosting. See the next section for more information on Web Hosting.
