Merchant Facilities made easy

eWAY® doesn't touch your money at any stage of the transaction process. Instead, we securely process and store all credit card data so as the funds can be deducted from the customer's card by your Internet Merchant Facility and deposited into your settlement account.

Merchant Facilites made easy

What is an IMF?

An IMF is a specialised bank account designed to receive the proceeds of online transactions and transfer them to your settlement account, which is usually your regular business bank account. These transactions are processed in seconds and typically settled at the end of each business day.

The cost for this service varies from bank to bank, but always includes a small percentage of each transaction and some account-keeping fees. These are seperate from eWAY's fees.

How do I get started?

To take online payments you will need a settlement account, an IMF and an eWAY account. eWAY has more than 22 banking partners, making it quick and easy to get an obligation-free quote for an IMF.

Just create an eWAY account, select your preferred bank, and a member of their merchant services team will contact you to do the rest. For more information, please call us and we will be happy to assist you.

Register your business

Your bank will require your business to be registered in Australia. You can do this on business.gov.au.

Create your website

Your bank may need to see the payment pages on your website prior to approving your Internet Merchant Account. If your website is in the early stages of development, you may wish to contact one of our eCommerce Developer Partners.

Our developer directory lists partners who have experience with eWAY and eCommerce websites. You can use our search function to find a developer who meets your exact needs.

If you need to add a cart to your existing website, we provide links to more than 180 shopping carts that have integrated their products with our payment gateway. Some of these carts provide a complete eCommerce site, while others can be incorporated into an existing site.

To help you find a cart that suits your business, you can search our shopping cart database for various features.

Write a business plan

Your bank may need to see a business plan before approving your Internet Merchant Account. You can use the our business plan generator to create this document.

Add contact details

Your bank will require that your website clearly displays your contact details. This may include physical address details, postal address details, phone numbers, and email addresses. A contact form that can be filled out by your customers and sends an email to your business may be sufficient, but you should confirm this with your bank.

Prepare a refund policy

Your bank will request a refund policy as part of your application for an Internet merchant facility. Below are two examples of refund policies:

Example 1

"We are happy to credit or exchange any unopened goods within 14 days of delivery, provided that we receive the goods in original condition. Returns will be approved at our discretion and all postage costs are to be incurred by the customer. If the disc is damaged upon receipt, we will be unable to accept the goods, and they will be returned to you.

”Please email returns@yourdomain.com with notification of and reason for the return. We will respond with instructions on how to proceed.

”Should you receive a faulty or damaged product, please email us [add email address] with your specific problem and we'll get back to you promptly.”

Example 2

"[Company Name] operates according to strict quality control guidelines and follows a 30-day money back guarantee, including change of mind.

”Refunds do not include postage and handling and will be processed within thirty working days of receipt of the goods. The product must be returned in original condition and packaging, with all accessories and contents.

”You must pre-pay all returns postage, and you assume any risk of lost, theft or damaged goods during transit; we therefore advise you take out shipment registration of insurance with Royal Mail. [Company Name] reserves the right to refuse to accept, and to return, parcels that arrive COD or have More To Pay stamped on them."
