eWAY, a global online payment provider, has reported the period leading up to Christmas has seen an explosion in consumer sales online. Sales for the peak period between 20th of November 2012 to the 20th of December 2011 totalled a massive $243.7m, up 51% on the same time last year, with online businesses benefiting from more customers shopping over the Internet.

This isn’t just a flash in the pan though. The number of new merchants signing up to accept payments with eWAY was the highest ever in November. More and more businesses are making to move online and taking advantage of the shift in consumer spending behaviour.
